Binaural beats are a unique phenomenon recorded in such a way that they can re-adjust the brainwave frequencies of the user without effort. By means of a sound healing technique called brain entrainment, binaural beats can change the emotional and mental state of anyone who listens.
Studies has shown that certain brain waves, like higher frequencies of beta and gamma, are ideal for learning and retaining information while lower brainwave frequenices such as theta and alpha are profound meditative states. Delta brain waves promote relaxed healthful sleep.
Until the use of binaural beats as MP3s and CDs, the only way to create profound changes in your brain wave patterns was to study meditation. For thousands of years this type of brainwave manipulation was only possible for practitioners of meditation with more than 20 years experience, such as Tibetan Buddhist Monks. But now, using binaural beats, it is simple for anyone to enter these kinds of meditative states within minutes, by only using good headphones, and a specialized binuaral beat program.
Although the science governing brain wave entrainment is a bit complicated, exploring the basic premise is easy to understand. Binaural beats were discovered by Heinrich Wilhelm Dove when he was an Associate Professor at the University of Berlin. The Professor discovered that when 2 similar sounds, that differ only slightly in frequency, are listened to separately to right and left ear, it will create a pulsation or type of beat to happen within the brain.
It was in the late 20th century when Scientific American published the research paper by Dr. Gerald Oster, called “Auditory Beats in the Brain”. This paper demonstrated how Dr. Oster took Prof. Dove’s findings, and modern research discovered that by utilizing binaural beats, he could manipulate the brain frequencies of the test subject to match the beat created by the binaural beats. When this happened the brainwaves of the user began to pulse with the same sound frequency as the binaural beats. So, Dr. Oster found that through this technique, he was able to influence the brain wave frequencies of theuser, and bring them to calculated mental states.
To uninitiated this would simply be one more scientific discovery that has not much to do with them or their everyday routines, were it not for the knowledge that every activity in our lives has a certain brainwave frequency. Most times, the brain wave effects you wish to create are affected by, and correspond to, the frequency your brainwaves are in at that moment. Every thing we all do have a dominant brainwave frequency.
This all seems fabulous, but you may say what does that have to do with me? To answer that question, it’s good to examine the benefits of meditation.
Some of the advantages of meditation include:
1. Deep relaxation.
2. Deeper and more restful sleep.
3. Higher levels of creativity.
4. More youthful energy.
5. Releasing of past negative emotional traumas.
6. Stress relief.
7. More physical stamina.
8. Increased concentration and focus.
9. Better retention of learned information.
10. Quicker healing.
This is just a small sampling of the benefits of meditation.
It is evident that the benefits of having a technology that can create desired brain states that relate to wholesome changes in body and mind is very advantageous. We are blessed to live in a time where we have access to Binaural Beats.
